Kent is a Board Member and Trustee for New Jersey Friends of the Guard and Reserve (NJFOGR), a non-profit organization that supports members of the Reserve components of the United States Armed Forces and the New Jersey National Guard and their families and works in close co-operation with the New Jersey Committee for the Support of the Guard and Reserve (NJESGR), a sub-committee of the National Committee for the Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). ESGR is an Agency within the Department of Defense.
Kent served in the United States Army for 29 years after his graduation and commissioning from York College of Pennsylvania in 1978. Most of his career was as an Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) soldier as a member of the New Jersey Army National Guard. His career consisted of three major functional areas which included Field Artillery, Tactical Communications and Human Resources. His final military assignment was the Chief of Human Resources at the National Guard Bureau headquarters in Arlington., VA from which he retired in 2007. Since his retirement, Kent has worked and is still working as a consultant for both non-profit organizations as well as Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses supporting the employment and transition of military Veterans. He is currently working on is second graduate degree as a student in the Rutgers University School of Business Professional MBA Program.
