Karl is a Board Member and Trustee for New Jersey Friends of the Guard and Reserve (NJFOGR), a non-profit organization that supports members of the Reserve components of the United States Armed Forces and the New Jersey National Guard and their families and works in close co-operation with the New Jersey Committee for the Support of the Guard and Reserve (NJESGR), a sub-committee of the National Committee for the Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). ESGR is an Agency within the Department of Defense.
Karl served in the US Army as a Public Information Officer during the Vietnam War era. He is an alumnus of Mercer County Community College and the College of New Jersey. He completed a 26-year career in 1994 serving in various command positions with the Trenton Police Department. He completed his career as the Manager of Information Systems implementing advanced law enforcement technologies. Upon his retirement from the TPD he began a second career as Chief Investigator for the New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Fiscal Accountability and Compliance as well as a consultancy to the NJ Department of Traffic Safety developing computerized accident reporting systems. Karl was a Mercer County committee member of NJESGR and served as Chair of the Speakers Bureau. He previously served as Mayor of Bordentown Township, treasurer for NJFOGR, Recording Secretary for Mercer County Local #12 of the NJ Retired Police and Firefighters, as well as a NJ Police Training Commission instructor.
